The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
